Lunar New Year in Vietnam

Lunar New Year, also known as Tet, Lunar New Year, or Traditional Tet, is the most important New Year's holiday for Vietnamese people. According to the lunar calendar, it is the time of transition between the old year and the new year. On the solar calendar, Lunar New Year usually takes place around the end of January to early February.

Origin and Meaning of Lunar New Year

The origin of the Lunar New Year is always a topic of interest and heated debate. Many people believe that the Traditional Tet was imported from China.

However, the story of Banh Chung and Banh Day reveals a ritual to worship ancestors and celebrate the New Year from the reign of King Hung before 1,000 years of Northern domination.

Lunar New Year is not only a time to mark the transition between the old year and the new year but also a holiday imbued with profound cultural and spiritual values for Vietnamese people. According to Eastern beliefs, this is a time when heaven and earth are in harmony, and people become closer to the gods than ever.

Tet is also an opportunity for people to spend time with their families, gather around a reunion dinner, celebrate the New Year, and exchange good wishes for the new year. This is the time for children and grandchildren to express their gratitude to their grandparents and parents, to heal the rifts in love and cultivate more love and connection.
